While many e-bikes are safe and environmentally friendly, the rise in illegally modified bikes — some capable of reaching 70mph — is creating real risks for pedestrians, road users and communities. We’re also seeing increased antisocial behaviour and a worrying number of fires linked to unsafe batteries.

Education, enforcement and stronger legislation are all needed to keep people safe.

Public safety must always come first, and we need to ensure only safe, legal e-bikes and e-scooters are on our streets.
