Clare Adamson has been the SNP MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw since 2016. She was born in Motherwell and raised in Wishaw, and is proud to represent the community she grew up in.

Professional Background
Clare studied Computer Information Systems at Glasgow Caledonian University and worked in the IT industry, including as European Development Manager at a Glasgow document management firm. She is a member of the National Union of Journalists and the British Computer Society, and is passionate about education and STEM, particularly encouraging girls and women into science and technology. Clare served as Vice-Chair of SSERC before being awarded an Honorary Fellowship
Clare’s Journey in Politics
Clare became involved in politics following the closure of the Ravenscraig steelworks, motivated by a desire to make a positive difference in her community. She worked at SNP Headquarters from 2003 to 2007, where she led the development of the party’s Activate campaign tool. Elected to North Lanarkshire Council in 2007, Clare went on to represent the Central Scotland region in the Scottish Parliament from 2011. In 2016, she became the first SNP MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw, retaining the constituency in 2021 and again in 2026.
Scottish Parliament Work
Clare previously served as Convener of the Education and Skills Committee, the Social Security Committee, and the Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee.
Following her re-election in 2026, she was appointed Deputy Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament.
