The redevelopment will see the centre transformed into a low-carbon health and wellbeing hub, with improved insulation and renewable energy technology helping to significantly reduce carbon emissions and running costs.

Importantly, the plans will also see the centre expand beyond its traditional watersports use, creating better space for outdoor education, wellbeing activities and the countryside ranger service, alongside improved accessibility for visitors.

There will also be new opportunities for small businesses, with space available to hire, as well as a new ground-floor café with indoor and outdoor seating.

Once complete in 2027, the building will reopen as Strathshore, a name chosen following consultation with more than 850 local people and school pupils.
