SNP 91st Annual National Conference 2025

It was an incredible few days at the SNP Conference full of energy, optimism, and belief in Scotland’s right to choose its own future.

The first day set the tone perfectly. The atmosphere was inspiring, and it was great to spend time with so many organisations doing such vital work. I caught up with British Heart Foundation, Electrical Safety First, Barnardo’s, WASPI, and SGN, all highlighting issues that matter deeply, from heart health and home safety to children’s rights, pension equality, and a fairer energy transition.

Day two continued in the same spirit, bringing together colleagues, campaigners, and organisations from across Scotland, the wider UK, and the EU. I had valuable conversations with groups including Mountaineering Scotland, Ramblers Scotland, Outdoor Access Trust For Scotland, Trussell Trust, and Independent Food Aid Network, who are all making a real difference in their communities. I also met with StepChange Debt Charity, Scottish Police Federation, Asthma + Lung UK Scotland, Sight Scotland, Revive, Royal College of Psychiatrists, Fire Brigades Union, European Movement, Museums Galleries Scotland, Confor, National Deaf Children’s Society, and RSPB.

A particular highlight was taking part in the Holyrood Magazine fringe event, where journalist Kirsteen Paterson, Ben Macpherson MSP, Martin Boyle, Director of The Open University, and I had a thoughtful discussion about the challenges facing further education and how Scotland can adapt to meet the needs of a changing world.

Day three rounded things off beautifully. It was a pleasure to meet even more fantastic organisations, including WWF and Guide Dogs Scotland, and to hear about the real impact of pavement parking on people’s lives. One of my favourite moments was meeting Marcus, a talented young accordion player whose music brought so many smiles.

The conference closed with a powerful and hopeful speech from our First Minister, John Swinney, reminding us why we do this work: to build a fairer, stronger, and independent Scotland.

I left feeling inspired, energised, and proud of everyone working so hard to make a positive difference for our communities and our country.
