Dignity Not Detention

I joined Justice & Peace Scotland at Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre for their solidarity witness, “Dignity Not Detention”.

Amid rising misinformation and division around immigration, there has never been a more important time to stand up for dignity, respect and humanity.

One of the most significant concerns about the UK’s immigration detention system is that it remains the only one in Europe without a statutory time limit on detention. People can be detained by the Home Office without knowing when they will be released, causing significant distress and uncertainty.

By gathering outside Dungavel, we sent a simple message to those detained inside: you are not forgotten.

Westminster’s immigration system needs to be more just and humane, recognising the dignity, worth and humanity of every person.
