Climate Action and Rural Affairs: Wildfires
Today in chamber I asked what discussions have taken place regarding specialist equipment and systems used to tackle wildfires and vegetation fires as the risk to communities across Scotland continues to grow.
I was encouraged to hear about the ongoing work of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, including its public awareness campaign and the measures being taken by our national parks to help reduce the risk of fires during the busiest months of the year.
Once more I highlighted the work of Fire Fogging Systems Ltd, a business based in my constituency that has developed innovative fire suppression technology which can play an important role in tackling fires quickly and effectively.
While advances are welcome, prevention remains our strongest defence. With warmer and drier conditions increasing the risk of wildfires, it is vital that we continue to raise awareness of how quickly even the smallest spark can develop into a serious incident.
Wildfires can have devastating consequences for our countryside, wildlife, local communities and green spaces. By following local guidance, respecting bylaws and taking care when enjoying the outdoors, we can all play our part in helping to prevent them.
