This morning, I was honoured to attend the Armed Forces flag raising ceremony at North Lanarkshire Council headquarters in Motherwell.

The event brought together veterans, serving personnel, cadets, families and local representatives to mark the start of Armed Forces Day commemorations and to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community.

It was an important opportunity to recognise not only those currently serving, but also the veterans and families whose ongoing support is vital. Their contribution, often made quietly and without recognition, is deeply valued in communities across North Lanarkshire.

On Armed Forces Day, it is right that we take time to show our appreciation for those who have served our country, both at home and overseas.

I extend my sincere thanks to all members of the Armed Forces community for their dedication and commitment.
