Clare Adamson has been the SNP MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw since 2016. She was born in Motherwell and raised in Wishaw, and is proud to represent the community she grew up in.

Professional Background
Clare studied Computer Information Systems at Glasgow Caledonian University and worked in the IT industry, including as European Development Manager at a Glasgow document management firm. She is a member of the National Union of Journalists and the British Computer Society, and is passionate about education and STEM, particularly encouraging girls and women into science and technology. Clare serves as Vice-Chair of SSERC.
Clare’s Journey in Politics
Clare became involved in politics following the closure of the Ravenscraig steelworks, inspired to make a positive impact in her community. She worked at SNP HQ from 2003–2007, leading the development of the ‘Activate’ campaign tool. Clare was elected to North Lanarkshire Council in 2007, and to the Scottish Parliament representing Central Scotland in 2011. She became the first SNP MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw in 2016 and was re-elected in 2021 with an increased majority.
Scottish Parliament Work
Clare previously chaired the Education and Skills Committee and the Social Security Committee. She is currently the convener of the Constitution, Europe, External Affairs, and Culture Committee.
